This blog has been created since I spend all of my life arguing sports with Willis Austin. Being the two knowledgeable sports fans that we are this is our first attempt to include people on the daily banter that often consumes one's life. This blog will often have a daily topic in which you the public will have the opportunity to chime in and give your respective opinions.

What's the most exciting story line for me?? Any "true" football fan comes into every season thinking his team has what it takes to go all the way and that's where I am right now!! NFL storylines don't get me going, Washington Redskin news is what excites me. The Redskin Nation is very excited this year believe me and I'll let you know why...
ReplyDeleteIt starts with the top, head coach Mike Shanahan. Only one coach in the league has more rings than he does and the team is built to win now. He's going into a situation with veteran players that's a good coach away from being contenders. I liked Jim Zorn but he's not an NFL head coach. We were 6-2 at in 2008 with wins at Dallas and Philly(quality wins) and we finished 8-8. When the film got out and the teams made adjustments, we didn't. He didn't have a clue last year. They pulled Sherman Lewis from calling bingo games(literally) and gave him the play calling duties. That was the situation last year but now all that rif-raf is gone. We have a proven head coach and...
Donovan McNabb!! We are set in the most important position on the team. The Eagles gave him away for a 2nd round draft pick. This man has been in so many big games and has done more with less than any other quarterback of his caliber. I'm not saying he's still a top 5 quarterback but he's still an elite QB. We haven't a QB of his caliber since maybe Mark Rypien or maybe Brad Johnson in "99". I loved Jason Campbell, for 4 years I was riding with this man but he's just not that guy. He's an 9-7 QB at best but he can't take a team to where we want to go. Best of luck to him in Oakland, Ill be checking every Raider box score and watching him close.
The rest of the team is solid too, the backfield is stacked again and in the Shanahan system it's real tough. Clinton Portis already showed what he can do in the system but I don't expect the 1500 yard Portis but he'll be effective and pair him with Larry Johnson. That sounds real good to me. The line will be much better, Silverback Williams, Jamaal Brown at tackles. Dockery and Hicks at guard and we resigned our center Casey Rabach. Tight End were solid with Coooooley and Fred Davis. Wide Reciever is probably our weakest unit, Santana Moss is our only proven reciever. Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly haven't shown enough yet and Joey Galloway and Bobby Wade who knows how much they'll contribute if they make the team.
On defense the 3-4 will be different but I'm excited b/c we were too vanilla before. The D-Line is tough with Big Baby(Albert Haynesworth) moving to end and as much as he's a b**ch he's on my team so let's go big fella!!!! Linebackers are going to be tough, London Fletcher(the captain) Rocky McIntosh, Andre Carter is moving outside and Brian Orakpo is going to be dangerous in the Demarcus Ware/Terrell Suggs mold. He made the pro bowl as a rookie and he's going to get better!! The secondary is solid, DeAngelo Hall, Carlos Rogers. LaRon Landry(overrated) and the other safety spot is open.
I'm so ready for this year!!! 11-5 at the worst!! Book it!!
"A Brand New Year." (reference Sopranos season 2 ep 1). Every year we go into a season with the idea their team is going to win the Super Bowl the difference btw most sports and baseball. There are several story lines that interest me but there is one that standouts more than most. Can my dallas cowboys build off of last years playoff victory and make a serious run at being in the SB in Dallas next year. The Cowboys have had a relatively quiet off -season with the exception of snagging dez bryant in the draft. The Cowboys are the front runners to win the NFC East in my opinion with the Redskins and Eagles in the rear view mirror. The Redskins a perfect segway into my next story line.
ReplyDeleteThe Washington Redskins will be the most watched team this season. They unlike the Cowboys have had a very loud offseason and i understand my compadres excitement and this team will be making noise this year. They have an elite QB that despite his many accolades still feels he has a lot to prove. He is also with a coach that has to also prove he needs to win without Elway. I believe this is a driving force for these two guys and watch out. This team i believe is a lock for a wild card.
Chris Johnson, The New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints are all these three for real? Can they do it again?
Brett Favre can he win his 2nd superbowl and will Adrian Peterson hold onto to the football this year.
Can New England return to its former self and can Pittsburgh tread water until they get Roethliberger back.
And what will the Eagles do with the QB they want at the helm this year do? how does 8-8 sound...
All these thing interest me this season.
PS September 5, lets get it!
I agree with Chillz in that the only story line I really care about is right off of Lake Michigan. I'm interested to see what Jay Cutler does in year 2 especially under the tutelage of the mad scientist Mike Martz. I also want to see what Coach Martz does with this extremly fast and underrated receiving core. how he helps I wanna see how good 91.5 million dollars looks coming off that end. I wanna see how the best 4-3 linebacking core looks reassembled. I want to see how my Bears looks with Lovie and Jerry Angelo's job's on the line. Most of all I want to see how we measure up in what will be the most competitive division in the NFL!
ReplyDeleteMark you not interested in what the Broncos are doing? just kidding...
ReplyDeleteShowtime your a Cowboy fan now?? I thought you were a Saints fan... just kidding
ReplyDeleteWell whoever you want to call me a fan are both better than the redskins.. But im a Cowboys fan.
