This blog has been created since I spend all of my life arguing sports with Willis Austin. Being the two knowledgeable sports fans that we are this is our first attempt to include people on the daily banter that often consumes one's life. This blog will often have a daily topic in which you the public will have the opportunity to chime in and give your respective opinions.

Top 10 Qb's
Who are your top 10 Qb's in the NFL today; not fantasy based?
1. Peyton Manning. Argueably the best quarterback ever!! He calls his own plays! In modern day football he's calling his own plays, he's going to have every record when he's done. He's thrown for over 4,000 yards every year since 1999 except one. He's won 4 mvp awards!!! He's the man!!!
2. Drew Brees. Right now he's the man! He turned New Orleans into a powerhouse . Last year he beat Kurt Warner, Brett Farve and Peyton Manning to win the Super Bowl. He also beat Brady in the regular season. He also has a 5,000 yard season that went unnoticed. Just $ right now.
3. Tom Brady. He's a made man among this group. He's holding the 3 rings and that's enough said. He also threw 50 touchdowns in a season and went 16-0 in a season.
4. Brett Farve. His 2009 #s at age 40. 33 touchdowns,7 interceptions, 4,202 yards. At age 40!! He faded down the stretch in 2008 with New York but he had them 9-3 and they beat the undefeated Titans. In 2007 he had the Packers in the NFC championship, this guy is tough!
5. Phillip Rivers. He's done nothing but won since taking over that job. His #s are there and he takes his team deep into the playoffs. He played a game with a torn ACL. Last year they closed the year out by winning there last 11 games(playing the nfc east) without any sign of a running game.
6. Ben Roethlisberger. He may be an asshole off the field, but when he puts on that #7 jersey he's the man. He went 15-1 as a rookie, won 2 super bowls and drove his team down to win the last one. He makes plays with his arm and legs and they've had about 4 different running backs in his tenure(so don't say its the running game).
7. Tony Romo. He's a really good player for all the hate he recieves. He's won with Dallas period. He's won they're first playoff game in 13 years. He's taken them 3 times and was a week 17 loss away from going 4 years in a row. His #'s are there and he gets the ball out really fast. Makes plays with his legs, he's an elite quarterback. Made Miles Austin a household name.
8. Donovan McNabb. He's done the most with less. I don't want to start listing his recievers( James Thrash, Todd Pinkston, Kevin Curtis, Freddie Mitchell) sorry but all he did was take that cast of "recievers" and won. He's won more than anyone not named Brady and Manning. He makes plays with his legs, (he's elusive as my brother would say now I'm looing forward to saying it all year). He's won big game after big game except for the big game and that's what has him down this far.
9. Eli Manning. His balls aren't the prettiest, but he wins. Last year was the first time he's missed the playoffs since being the starter. His 2007 run is so tough, went on the road and won 3 games and then beat a 18-0 New England team. He deserves to be on this list. The Giants have been relevant these last 5 years and he's a huge reason why.
10. Aaron Rodgers. The new kid on the block. He waited his turn for the job and he's lit the league up. He took his bruises last year and had to learn how to win and in year 2 he took his team to the playoffs and lost to Arizona. Not really his fault, they scored 45 points.
1. Peyton Manning- I agree will be the greatest of all time. Has revolutionized the position. Extremely durable hasnt missed a start his entire career. 4 mvp's and 12 plus wins 7 straight seasons. Unprecedented statistic.
2. Drew brees- This guy is the ultimate competitor; undersized but has a big arm. Has compiled amazing stats under Sean Payton's system. Resurrected an entire city. Not enough that can be said about this guy.
3. Tom Brady- Would be number 2 but injuries has taken him out of the 2 spot. But has won 3 rings and once he got a dynamic receiver threw 50 touchdowns and was a dropped interception by Asante Samuel from being 19-0. Scoring 40 ppg absolutely ridiculous.
4. Phillip Rivers- has all the heart and moxy you want in Qb. Constant winner played with a torn ACL against the pats while his "star" Rb sat on the sideline with his helmet on and gritted it out and was in the game. Deserves all the respect in the world. Great passer but still has to get the Chargers over that one hurdle.
5. Tony Romo- I was not a big fan of this guy initially but has made me the ultimate believer in his ability. He has been in playoff games and played well. Got the Cowboys a much needed playoff victory last year. Has got better each year at the position and has the Cowboys ready to contend on a yearly basis. He plays hurt and despite all the flack that he gets still manages to get the job done.
6. Big ben- Has won 2 super bowls in just 7 years in the league. Thats 1 more than Manning and Brees and 1 less than Brady. Has great escapability and gets it done late in games in the 4th quarter when games are won. May not get it done the prettiest but gets it done nonetheless.
7. Donovan McNabb- extremely productive and maybe the most misunderstood player in the history of the NFL. All this guy has done is won and yet i guess thats not enough for people. 5 nfc title appearances and brought the Eagles back 2 yrs ago against Arizona before the defense gave up the lead. Has done nothing but win. Has done more with less. When Tom Brady had nobody's he was so amazing come on now lets be real here.
8. Aaron Rodgers- Great with the legs and great with his arm. We do this list next year and he will probably be in the top 5. Has waited his turn and has made great plays with absolutely no offensively line.
9. Brett Favre- he has to make this list for just b/c reasons. The most overrated player in NFL history. Still cant be trusted in a big game hence the NFC championships game last year where he threw a big pick and two seasons ago against the Giants where he threw the pick 6 to Cory Webster. Great but very reckless. Remember the 360 pass against the Eagles.
10. Eli Manning- widely inaccurate but gets the job done. Also great in the fourth quarter and is better as the game gets more chaotic. If he becomes more consistent he ll move up this list.
Did I just read that right, "The most overrated player in NFL history??? That is the single dumbest quote in the short history of this blog. Brett Favre is overrated?? How???? Peyton has 3 mvp's?? Brett had 3 before Peyton played a game!!! He also won his 3 consecutively!!! Dominated the league!!! He's lead the league in passing yards and touchdowns multiple times!! He's the all-time leader in yards passing, touchdowns, completions and wins by a starting qb. He hasn't missed a start since 1992, what's overrated about that???
Please before you post your entries proofread it for asinine statements like this one!
Brett Favre is vastly overrated. WIll he or wont he? Im sick of the hype this guy gets. He walked into a ready to win team in Minnesota and yea he played well but so what. They were in the playoffs the year before that. The Jets were 9-3 with Favre and yet they still missed the playoffs. Favre is the ultimate complier and you know that. You also failed to mention that he also is the all-time leader for INTERCEPTIONS thrown too. I dont want to hear any of that. The media treats favre as if he won 3 or 4 Super Bowls. He won 1. And he didnt even get MVP in the game it went to a special teams player. He throws big pick after big pick in these playoff games and yet he is still gets glorified. If was name was McNabb he'd be getting ripped apart. Im not saying he isnt great, i respect what he is done in his career but for the praise he gets; he is overrated in my eyes.
And when he was with the Jets you said his arm got tired and thats why they failed to make it. So he got older by a year and his arm never got tired. Favre is a damn baby and wouldnt have came back if he couldnt get to play in Minnesota. And yea he beat the Packers twice last year but id bet anything he wont do it again this year.
I agree with Mil's list more than Chillz. If I had to make a list without all the explanation it would be: 1. Peyton Manning- obvious (can't hate him even after that Super Bowl)
2. Drew Brees
3. Tom Brady
4. Ben Roethlisberger- check the results can't deny him
5. Philip Rivers
6. Donovan McNabb- gets more with less
7. Tony Romo- though I thought he was praised too soon just because he was in Big D, this guy is a winner
8. Aaron Rodgers- A problem for my Bears for years to come.
9. Brett Favre- definitely overrated these days. Minnesota was a qb away from the superbowl and he defintely made them a favorite in the NFC but they act like this guy can do no wrong. I almost vomited last year watching the Bears Vikes MNF game. Brett Favre this and Brett Favre that "Look how much fun he's having", "Look at how he has the offensive line protecting him", "Look how he has the water boy handing out that water" Its disgusting! They let this guy get away with bloody murder and its ok cause its Brett Favre. AP misses one day and the coach is talking about how important mini camp yet he's holding Brett's water at a high school football practice. It's disgusting! But I digress I would take any of those other 8 guys (and of course Cutler)before him.
10. Eli Manning- by default because I can't really put Cutler there after 26 picks last year and no other quartback is really deserving of that spot yet but Eli is overrated in my book. He may have been on the winning team in that Super Bowl but that Giants Defense won that superbowl holding an offensive juggernaut to 14 points.
First I want to say this to you guys, stop bringing the media up in this blog. The media's perception of Brett Favre had absolutely no affect on my rankings. I watch more than enough football to formulate my own rankings and the other people in this blog do to..
First @Mark... As a Chicago Bears fan you should know FIRST HAND how good Brett Favre is!! At one point in the rivalry the Packers beat yall 12 straight times!! You remember the quote for Bill Shroeder. And your point about the Vikings were a good QB away, here's a little secret EVERY TEAM is a good QB away from being in contention. To say he's overrated these days when he came off his finest season in one of the most storied careers for a QB is insane. What's overrated about 33 td's and 7 picks at age 40? What's overrated about sweeping the Packers in those tough games?? I know you hate him but now your just hating on him...
@ Showtime... The media treats Favre as if he won 3 or 4 Super Bowls. You treat Peyton Manning as if he won 3 Super Bowls and you know what he won 1!!! Just as many as Farve!! You know who he beat to win his Super Bowl.. Rex Grossman and Lovie Smith. Dominic Rhodes and Joseph Addai should've been the MVP of that Super Bowl!! Yea he beat the Patriots in that game but what other big game has Peyton won??? Of all the quarterbacks on this list how many has Peyton beat in the playoffs???? The one game against the Patriots. The other quarterbacks he beat in the playoffs.. Damon Huard, an old Steve Mcnair, and last year he beat Joe Flacco and Mark Sanchez... So what's so great about him??
One more quick one... You're so quick to point out McNabb's Conference game appearances so how many does Peyton have?? 3, Just as many as Bernie Kosar. Kurt Warner has been to 3 super bowls but Peyton's been to 3 Confence Championships so he's great?? Farve has been to 5 by the way!!
Im going to say this if you want to compare Favre to Manning; answer this question for me; Why isnt Manning number 1 on your list and Favre is number 4? Why isnt favre number 1? Thats all i want to know.
"Argueably the best quarterback ever!! He calls his own plays! In modern day football he's calling his own plays, he's going to have every record when he's done. He's thrown for over 4,000 yards every year since 1999 except one. He's won 4 mvp awards!!! He's the man!!!" ~ Willis Austin on Peyton Manning
You didnt say brett favre "argueably the greatest ever" . You watch enough football right then you can obviously see how many bad picks favre has thrown and that Manning is clearly better than Favre.
Will what is your beef with mark and I? Is that we have Favre that low on our list?
We call Favre overrated b/c of the type of praise he gets. Ron Jaworski i believe it was on a MNF football broadcast once was quoted as saying "Brett Favre is on the same level as Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan." Are you kidding me. Its that kind of talk that makes Brett Favre overrated to me. Those are immortal athletes and for someone to say Brett in that class is asanine to me.
Let me ask you a question if you have one game to win tomorrow? How do you take Manning or Favre?
No I don't have a problem with your rankings, that's exactly what they are YOUR rankings but I don't agree with them. My problem is that you guys are calling him overrated b/c you don't like the attention he gets. How's that a way to rank a player? The media loves him so he can't be good? It makes me sick how much the media and blah blah blah. You sound like another person I know.
Before I answer that question I'll repeat the one I asked before... What big game has Peyton won??
The year the won the SB when they were down 2 scores at the half against New England. After the first all you hear is here we go again. Peyton comes out guns blazing to exorcise the demon that was New England and they havent beat him since. Now answer my question!!!
ONE GAME??? That's his claim to fame?? I would take Manning to win the game now obviously b/c Favre is 40 years old. Peyton Manning has won playoff games, Favre won that many in 96-97. Maybe you should re-consider who's overrated!!
Top 10 quarterbacks as I see it.
