Umpires, Officials and Referees

What do you think about the blown call of the perfect game last night in Detroit?

  1. That umpire last night should be suspended without pay for the remainder of the season. That call was absolutely ridiculous and that umpire needs his eyes examined after that. I think if baseball doesnt reserve this call its an absolute joke. For Armando Galarraga to go out there and retire 26 straight batters and to have 27 and piece of history ripped away from him by an umpire is shame. They should reverse the call b/c Galaragga retired the next batter and the outcome of the game was not affected. If a player messed up on that play then fine tough luck for the pitcher. But for someone who isnt playing to have made impact on the game like that is a joke! Bud Selig should come out today and say after reviewing the play we overturned the call and award Galaragga with a perfect game! I ve read and heard people all day devaluing a perfect game is a joke because there has been 2 already this year. Its still only been done 20 other times and how many games have we played its still a monumental piece of history and every pitcher who has done it should be celebrated. Im hearing people say showing sympathy for the umpire b/c of the human element; im not buying it.
I feel 1000 times worst for the pitcher. He's the one that got everyone out not the damn umpire.

I think these umpires, referees and officials all want to have their imprint on game instead of just doing there job and i believe it clouds it s their judgement. For example, that ref who called the technical foul on Kendrick Perkins that resulted in him being ejected and almost affecting the entire series if he had been suspended for Game 6. Good job by the NBA for reviewing that situation and not letting a referee determine the outcome of the game, let alone the series. In conclusion, i think these refs, officials and umpires need to pipe down and just do their job instead of looking for their 15 mins of fame!

  2. Last night was an absolute travesty. Armando Galaragga pitched perfectly last night(pun intended) and the umpire blew the biggest call of his professional life. On that play you have to call that runner out, any bang-bang play with that much at stake you call the runner out and live with it. If replay showed he was safe by calling the runner out he wouldn't be infamous for ruining perfection. In the last 3 seconds of a basketball game the referees swallow there whistles for this reason exactly, let the players decide it.

This is the reason baseball needs to get with the times and modernize the game. What other reason do they need to expand the use of instant replay in baseball. Now I won't go too far and say every questionable pitch should be eligible for review but close plays at a base or plate. Determining whether a ball is fair or foul even for a base hit should be up for review. If that's too much maybe they could even go as far as giving each manager 1 challenge each that they use at their discretion. All challenges after the 7th inning stretch will come the booth. I don't know but something has to be done, it's time!!!

  3. Well said i actually agree with 100%. Damn we agree on something hell is about to freeze over! But yeah this needs to get baseball off its ass and get with the times. This oh its americas pastime mentality time to throw it out! This was an injustice last night and something needs to be done!

  4. At least the ump admitted he was wrong...I'm pretty sure if he could take it back he would. Should Bud Selig step in and change the call?

  5. Welcome to the blog Claude aka Legend, and let me be the first to come at you. At least the ump admitted he was wrong and he would take it back if he could?? I've heard that somewhere before... A murder trial... Doesn't work there and it definitely won't work here.

And Bud Selig can't step in and change the call, why should he?? If it was a 2 hitter and the ump blew the call and the next batter ends the game does he step in and change the call then. If you open pandora's box it can get real ugly!
