Game 6
Boston leads LA 3-2 in a game that has a lot on the line tonight. Who you do you have tonight and why?
Tonight's game when i woke up this morning and a feeling in my gut that the Celtics would win tonight! I have since backed off this and decided to go with the Lakers tonight. The Lakers are to good to lose 3 in a row and thats why i think they get the win tonight! Obviously the pressure is squarely on the Lakers tonight and if they win see you Sunday! I think tonight is Boston's only chance to win the series b/c i dont think they ll beat the Lakers in a 7th game in their building! Gasol and the rest of Lakers need to step it up tonight and I believe they will! Odom, Gasol and Bynum i think all get double doubles and the Lakers ride the wave tonight and set up a monumental game 7! A game 7 of epic proportion on Thursday! With all that being said Lakers need to win this series more than the Celtics from a legacy and historical perspective! Phil and Kobe desperately need to win this series as far as their legacies concern. And dont get me wrong both have had legendary careers but i believe losing to the Celtics twice would be a blemish on those legendary careers! This is Kobe 7th NBA Final and it probably wont be his last but he needs to win this one! Yea Kobe you have a had great career but you never beat Boston. People still say Jerry West had a legendary career BUT he never beat the Celtics! Phil for all zen master philosophy is great but he's been badly out coached by Doc! His lost faith in his bench and he hasnt made any adjustments to counter the celtics tough defense! I think they do win tonight though and they do eventually win the series and they do add to their legacies but it is imperative that they do win!
I'm shocked that the Lakers are in this position but this is the way the 2-3-2 format is supposed to go. The Celtics did their job by going back to LA up 3-2 now the ball is in the Lakers court can they hold serve??
I don't know if they can, the Celtics took Kobe Bryant's knockout punch and smiled. Kobe really scored 23 straight points in an NBA finals game, think about that for a minute! Paul Pierce was right there for the Celtics answering Kobe's onslaught with tough basket after tough basket. Kevin Garnett made Pau Gasol look like Will Perdue. Rondo was his usual amazing self and they still have Ray Allen and a strong bench!! How can this team be beat?? Kobe can't do it himself. At one point Kobe 35 points and was the only Laker in double figures. He's going to need his supporting cast, Pau and Odom need to be there effective selves. Ron-Ron has to contribute something on the offensive end!! Bynum played well but he's going to have to do more defensively. The Lakers as a whole need to do a better job defensively
@Jamil... Phil doesn't need this series to solidify anything!! He's won 10 titles!! Period.
Yea he does actually. Yea i know it sounds absurd for me to say that someone needs to win his 11th title! But the two times he has faced boston doc has out coached him! And your right Boston did do what they were supposed to do by winning 2 of 3 but at the same token LA did what they were supposed to do by getting a game in Boston. But for argument sake lets say Phil doesnt need to win this serious what about Kobe? I root for Kobe just as much as you do but i think he needs to beat this team! It will stick with Kobe forever that he hasnt beat boston. Its stuck with Jerry West for 40 years he needs this! And you are right he needs help just as we both previously stated. I have a question though; is boston this great or did we again overrate the Celtics opponent!! Watching this series is somewhat validating Lebron's performance against the Celtics in that these superstars cant beat this team by themselves! Doc said it right this starting five, Pierce Allen Garnett, Rondo and Perkins have never lost a playoff series. Thats an impressive streak! But Phil has a streak of his won 46-0 after winning game 1 in playoff series! One of the streaks will come to an end! I think its the Celtics streak but i do have doubts about tonights game! Time for some high life!
tonight's game is NOT about Kobe at all!!! Kobe went 9-29 from the floor in game 3 but the Lakers won. In game 5, Kobe couldn't miss, but the Lakers lost. The C's gameplan is simple. Kobe can take as many shots as he wants, and he will be played by Pierce or either of the Allens straight up. Make Gasol catch the ball 8-10 feet from the rim instead of 5, and deny as many offensive boards to the Lakers' bigs as possible. If Lamar Odom steps up tonight, I like the Lakers. Otherwise, Boston ends it in 6. Lakers can't count on production from Farmar or Brown or Sasha. If the Lakers settle for jumpers, they're done.
Phil doesn't need this series at all. Never beat Boston?? The Lakers/Celtics rivalry isn't what it was, Kobe said "I don't give a damn!!!" when asked about the rivalry so that should answer that. In the 80s and these teams actually hated each other and the 60s everybody hated the Celtics!!! Who cares if he Kobe never beat the Celtics?? He didn't beat the Pistons either and the Lakers/Pistons were a rivalry in the 80s. As far as Kobe's legacy, I'm not one of the people that say a player losing a championship tarnishes there legacy. The last 3 superbowl losing quarterbacks??? Manning, Warner, Brady.. there legacies are fine. Magic, Larry, Dr J., Wilt, even Bill Russel all lost in the NBA finals, there legacies are fine. The Celtics are a great team period. I don't need to run down Kobes accomplishments, if he doesn't win this title the foundation is already in place and when it's all over he will be the Greatest of all time!!
I know I'm late and the game alreafy started but I agree with all of you that if we have the Kobe show again LA will lose. I also agree that if the Lakers win tonight thwy will win the series cause I can't see Boston winning game 7 in their building. I agree wit Will that Kobe's legacy wil not be greatly tarnished by his failing to beat the Celts as the rivalry isn't that deep these days. I do feel three loses in the finals will effect his legacy though esp. if he is 1-2 w/o Shaq. Also MJ never lost in the big show
Mark lets save the Kobe vs MJ debate until Friday if the Lakers win or Lose! but game 6 tonight was very important for the Laker morale! Artest who hasnt been mentioned on the blog much has been terrible but stepped it up tonight! He was aggressive and made Pierce defend him on the other end! This bodes well for the Lakers in Game 7! Boston you had your chance i think, and cant wait to sing NA NA NA hey hey goodbye come Thursday night!
This series has always been the Lakers to win/lose. Games 4 and 5 was the epitome of that fact: Boston playing at their absolute best gets them 7 pt victories. when the lakers play like theyre supposed to they win by twenty. its like kobe said in a post game interview last week: they're just a better team
