Awards

With about 85% of the season of the complete; who do think takes home baseball's awards ?

12 comments:

  1. This has been a very entertaining season with the pitchers regaining the upper hand in the game. Forget that I'm not sugar-coating it anymore, the testing for PED's is working and the game is better for it! Well here are my award winners this year...

AL MVP: Josh Hamilton. .361, 31 and 97 rbi. He's the Natural!! He started the year in left b/c Texas wanted to keep him healthy but when Bourbon stunk Hamilton moved to CF. Look at his #s for a center fielder!! Amazing!! He also has Texas on the cusp of there first AL West Title since 1999. Runner-Up: Miguel Cabrera(sorry Miguel)

NL MVP: Carlos Gonzalez... Let me say it first, no later than 2012 he will be the best player in the game!! He burst on the scene in last year's pennant race and in the NLDS against Philly when he was the best player in the series!! He's only leading the league in avg and rbi and tied for second in homers! He stole 23 bases so far and will likely have a 30/30 season which to me puts him over the edge.(If Votto, Pujols or CarGo when the Triple Crown then that's who wins MVP.)

AL Cy Young: CC Sabathia.... I know, I know wins don't matter!! In what sport doesn't wins matter(at Showtime and Matty P)?? He's going to win 20+ games for the best team in baseball. He's pitching in a bandbox by the way. And don't give me the best team in baseball excuse b/c it hasn't help Burnett, Vasquez or Phil Hughes since June. They know they can count on the Bulldog every 5th day to take the ball and stop a slide or keep them in any game.
Runner Up(s): David Price, King Felix

NL Cy Young: Adam Wainwright... This one was a tough choice but I picked him over Ubaldo and Doc because he has a better ERA and Whip. He has 17 wins along with Roy to Ubaldo's 18. After the ASB Ubaldo really cooled off and Roy has made a huge impact but not quite the impact we expected from the best pitcher switching leagues joining a powerhouse. Adam has been consistently better the whole year so I choose him.

AL ROY: Brennan Bosch.. By default.. The AL crop wasn't half as exciting as the NL crew(Strasburg, Mike Stanton, Ike Davis, Sterlin Castro, Jason Heyward, Mike Leake, Buster Posey, Johnathan Niese, there really good!!!!)

NL ROY: Jaime Garcia... He was the best of that excellent crop of rookies. He's 13-6 with an ERA of 2.35!! That's top 10 in the majors!! He's a front-line starter on a really good rotation. He's legit.

  2. Ok, first off, you said in what sports don't wins matter? In what other sport does one person get credit for a win or loss? If the Colts win does Peyton Manning get a W? You brought up Vazquez? He has an ERA above 5!!! Burnett gets rocked every other start!!! And Phil Hughes is tied for 3rd in the AL in wins with an ERA of 4.26!!! He's not even in the top 25 in ERA but 3rd in wins (1 behind David Price). Wins as the worst category in all of sports...Why should your stats be determined by how many runs your teams scores? And Sabbathia doesn't even have to pick up a bat. That being said my awards are as follows....

AL Cy Young - CC Sabbathia...not because of his win total, but all the other intangibles...throws a lot of innings, lots of K's and a great ERA

Honorable Mention: David Price, Jon Lester, Clay Bucholz, Felix Hernandez

NL Cy Young: Roy Halladay...numbers are very similar to Wainwright's, but he's pitched more innings than Wainwright and his team is going to the Playoffs.

Honorable Mention: Wainwright, Jimenez, Tim Hudson, Josh Johnson

AL MVP: Josh Hamilton...not even a question...leads the majors with a .365 ba, and leads his team in HR and RBI's

Honorable Mention: Miguel Cabrera, Robinson Cano

NL MVP: Joey Votto...carried this team on his back, and is in the top 3 in all the triple crown categories...added bonus that his team will be in the playoffs.

Honorable Mention: Carlos Gonzalez, Albert Pujols

AL ROY: Brennan Boesch, Austin Jackson...these were the only two rookies in the AL that meant anything, and they play for the same team...let them split it.

NL ROY: Buster Posey...I know Heyward is the big name here, but he was hurt for awhile and he has just 16 HR, when it looked as if he was gonna hit 30. Strasburg seemed like a lock until the 2 stints on the DL cost him the award. Posey plays a much tougher position than Heyward, and has brought his team to playoff contention when Pablo Sandoval shit a brick...oh and a .328 BA isn't bad either...

Honorable Mention: Jason Heyward, Jaime Garcia, Mike Stanton, Ike Davis, Stephen Strasburg

AL Manager of the Year: Joe Maddon...has his team fighting for the best record in baseball...the same team who was the victim of Braden's perfect game and Edwin Jackson's no-hitter

NL Manager of the Year: Charlie Manual!!! 17 players from this team have spent time on the DL...the only starters to not do so were Jayson Werth and Ibanez. He also had to deal with old man Jamie Moyer, Kyle Kendrick, and Joe Blanton as three guys from the rotation for much of the year, yet the Phillies are in a position to win the division for the 4th straight year!!!

  3. My Awards:

AL MVP: Miguel Cabrera by default for me. Josh Hamilton not playing in September should hinder him from winning the award. His numbers are astounding, and definitely if he was healthy he'd be the favorite.

    Honorable Mention; Cano, Josh Hamilton

AL Cy Young; excuse my bias but i think its King Felix hands down. Here are some alarming stats. His record is 11-10 but the Mariners has scored a total of 11 runs in his 10 losses. Thats an absolute travesty. He should be at least 18-5. Over his last 5 starts he has an era of 0.19 that is just filthy stuff. Who trades that caliber pitcher in fantasy? Best pitcher in the league, idk care what anyone says. But sabathia will win the award and if he does i can live with it.

Honorable mention- CC, Price, Bucholz in that order.

AL rookie- Brandon Bosche by default

AL Manager- Joe Maddon- look at this teams payroll and they talent they have. Managing young talent is one of the hardest things to do. He's done a great job with it.

NL MVP- Carlos Gonzalez- amazing in the field and at the plate. Top 5 fantasy player next year. Top 3 outfielder in all of baseball. If your Oakland u gotta be kicking urself for trading this guy he is already better than Matt Holliday.

    Honorable mention- Pujols, Votto, Howard

NL Cy Young- this is very difficult award at one point it was all ubaldo all the time, but it can go to any one of five guys. But i think it should be
Halladay he ll end up being the best pitcher on the best team.

Jimenez, Johnson, Wainwright, Carpenter and hudson all make the this a tight race.

NL ROY- Buster Posey; ever since the 5th overall pick in 2009 has been inserted into the lineup look at the Giants record. This once inept offense has now legit bats in it and he is the cog. Had 16 hrs in the month of July and also had a 23 game hit streak this year.

    Honorable Mention- Stanton, Heyward, Strasburg

SN: The NL is going to be great in the upcoming seasons

Manager of the Year- could be Dusty Baker, Charlie Manuel and Jim Tracy either or works for me.

  4. Matty P.. I didn't know you were a chef.. But I'm going to eat your argument up like a 5-course meal!! You serve one hell of a dish...

1st course. Soup. "If the Colts win does Peyton Manning get a W"... Actually he does(Idiot).. If you would kindly google Brett Favre, or Brett Favre's records held you will see most career wins by a starting quarterback. A wide receiver or running back doesn't have it as a stat for the same reason's first baseman and outfielders don't. Qb's and starting pitcher have a direct hand in the outcome of games. Thus counting wins...

2nd course. Appetizer. Vazquez, Burnett and Hughes...

If you read my post again I said pitching for the Yanks hasn't helped Burnett, Vazquez or Hughes(since June, Hughes was a monster in April and May). So your helping my case for CC.

    3rd course. Soups. Roy Halladay

Your giving the CY Young to the guy on that pitches on a playoff team?? You can really make a case that Roy Oswalt has pitched them into the playoffs. He's 5-1 since being traded, played leftfield and kinda revitalized this organization. They were down after the Cliff Lee trade and Oswalt just wiped that off the plate.(Sorry 5-1 doesn't matter. Well Kevin Millwood is 2-15 that doesn't matter either?)

4th Course. Entree. AL Cy Young CC

WHAT?? Wins don't matter... ERA, innings pitched and strikeouts are the better barometer... Well King Felix has pitched more innings, struck out more batters and has a better ERA than CC. Hell he even has better WHIP if you want to throw that in.. So how the hell isn't he your Cy Young.. Oh b/c the intangibles. by that did you mean WINS!!!???(Idiot)

    5th course. Dessert.

Ryan Howard is better than Chase Utley(take that!)

  5. hot damn and I'm at it again

First off, the question was who do I think will win the awards...If you notice I took Sabbathia also. He's gonna be a 20-game winner (the only one in the AL), which would make it hard for him to not win. I never said I would pick him personally. I personally would vote for Buchholz, but I don't get a vote.

As for the Brett Favre statement...has Brett Favre ever NOT gotten a W when his team won? Never. Has Halladay ever Not gotten a win when his team won? Many times. For example - Halladay leaves with a 1-0 lead after the 8th...he's in line for the win...Lidge gives up a run, blows the win for Doc, blows the save...but Polanco hits a walk-off in the bottom of the 9th and Lidge (who gave up more runs in 1 inning of work than Doc gave up in 8) gets the W. Seems fair, doesn't it?

As for the Cy Young...Halladay and Wainwright have almost identical numbers as far as WHIP, ERA and Wins go. But how can you justify not giving the award to the guy who pitched more innings, has more K's, has more CG (and CG shutouts) and oh yea...a Perfect Game!!! Unless Wainwright fininshes with 22 wins and Doc with 19 while giving up 4 runs each outting, Doc gets it. (added bonus that his team will be in the playoffs)

As for the Hughes comment, you HELPED MY ARGUMENT that wins are an awful way of determining how good someone pitched....He's 3rd in the AL in wins and his ERA is in the 4's. Put Felix in a Yankees uniform and he wins 22-25 games....EASILY!!!! Hughed in Seattle? Maybe 7 wins....maybe.

Don't forget to tip your waitress on the way out...

The Chase v. Ryan debate will be saved for Mountain Bar conversation.

  7. I had such a delightful meal the last time here that I had to come back(and don't worry I told friends and family how good it was)

I'm pretty sure he meant who are our choices for the awards.. what good is predicting who the media is going to pick..

Personally you would vote Buchholz?? That's why I love this place they serve this crap all day!! That may be your dumbest quote you ever posted. Clay Buchholtz?? Are you kidding me.. King has 60 more innings pitched than him and 100 MORE K's than him!!!!! All he has is a better ERA(and wins but we're not counting that right?) So what is it I'm missing(Jay-Z Blueprint 3)

Don't start with what's fair in baseball and what's not. Why when you fly out to center and the guys advanced a base, 3rd to home you get a sac fly, but if he advances 1st to 2nd your 0-1?? Is that fair??

And it works both ways with the pitchers. A reliever can also come in and get the pitcher out of a jam and preserve his win.(Hold, actual stat)

If Brett Favre finishes the game and they win, then he should get the win but if he doesn't than he shouldn't. Has Halladay finished a game that his team won and he didn't get the win?? Did I miss that??

    Halladay and Wainwright...
I said Wainwright has been consistently better the whole year. He has more K's, innings and CG b/c Uncle Charlie pitches him like nobody else in the league. Roy Halladay can finish the 7th down 5-3 with a line like, 7ip, 12 hits and 5 earned and Charlie brings him back out in the 8th. I've never seen anyone used like that! It's like the how the Brewers used CC like a rental car that year, they didn't care b/c it was a rental. And Roy was perfect that day so that means he's the Cy Young?? Dallas Braden was perfect does he deserve it?

Thanks for having me back, I really enjoyed it!

  8. IM going to chime in right now. Table for 1 please. I ve heard a lot about this restaurant so whats good here and whats bad. On the one hand i agree most with mostly the whole wins argument but lets look at last year's Cy young race. King Felix 18 wins Zach Grienke 16 wins and Sabathia 19 wins. Grienke won the award over King and CC why. Someone please tell me. Felix i had 5 losses and grienke had 7. So Felix had 2 more wins and 2 less losses with more k's and his era was .25 less than Grienke did so why is Hernandez the winner. Who the hell is the media thats my point. What precedent are the going by win selecting the Cy Young. Its a bunch of Bs. Now the bad; Clay Bucholz you should be ashamed of yourself. You couldnt even put him 3rd David Price has had a much better year than him. SN just went into fenway went 8 innings and only gave up two runs. Clay Bucholz lets be real with ourselves here Matt that just asanine.

To recap my meal was so so.

Now back to regularly scheduled programming.

  9. ahhhhahaaa...Don't worry the next meal is on me...And I'll even have some Mike's Hard Lemonade waiting for your bitchass too!!!!

So if Brett Favre doesn't finish the game and Tavaris Jackson plays 4 minutes of the 4th quarter, he gets with win? Wins and losses are given to a team in every sport...The COLTS went 12-4, not Peyton Manning. The LAKERS won 57 games, not Kobe Bryant. Why give a person a category called a win if he gives up 5 runs in 5 innings, (happens to Vazquez and Jamie Moyer all the time) but his teammates knock in all the runs? How can a pitcher get a win if he doesn't even do anything at the plate to help his team win? Technically, a guy only has to throw 1/3 of an inning and he can get a WIN...that could be 1 pitch!!! Wins is the worst individual category in pro sports.

And I think you basically gave up on the Wainwright argument. You said nothing to make me think Wainwright deserves it. Braden did throw a PG. Too bad he's got a 3.47 era and over 50 fewer innings pitched than Sabbathia. And only 9 wins (since you love the category wins). Halladay's PG is just the cherry on top. Does Roy throw a lot of innings? Yessir...why? Cuz he's THE BEST. Why not go 9 if you can? You get the next 4 days to rest. It gives the bullpen an extra night off...and the Phillies don't exactly have the best pen either (I'd take Halladay after 140 pitches than any Phillies reliever fresh).

And Buccholz got hurt. Otherwise he woulda had much better numbers than Sabbathia. The lowest ERA in the AL (better than Sabbathia's by more than half a run/9) doesn't mean anything?

And as for the question...it clearly says who do you think takes home the award, not who do you want to take it home...that's why I picked Sabbathia. The MVP is the most valuable to their team...the CY Young is the BEST...sorry, but if I had to take 1 guy to take the mound to win a game, I'd take Buccholz or Felix on my team ahead of Sabbathia.

I always wondered why your fantasy team name is Dynasty. I think of championship teams when I think of the word Dynasty...UCLA in the 60's, the Bulls of the 90's, the Patriots of this era...these are dynasties. Your name should be "Well At Least I Tried!"

    Please drive responsibly!!!

  10. The Blog is BACK!!!!!! Hooters or Mountain bar Sunday!

  11. I don't want any damn Mike's Lemonade!! What do you have on tap? Any specials? Last time I was here we had a great shit sandwich...

If the person does enough to put his team in position to win then he should get the win. Period. If Roy Halladay went 9 innings and gave up 4 runs and the Phils win so he shouldn't get any credit for that?? No quality start(your favorite) or a W. Wins are what matters in the pitching world. Bottom line. The object of the game is to win! Not strike out 27 guys, not have a low ERA or WHIP. Wins is what matters. Strikeouts for hitters is a worse stat!

How did I give you the Wainwright argument? You said Roy had more of this and that and I explained why. Charlie gives him the opportunity to have better #s in the categories. Newsflash (asshole) every pitcher would love to throw 9 every time out if given the chance. So b/c the Phils pen stinks and Charlie pitches him so much than he should be cy young?? He hasn't pitched better than Wainwright!

Buchholtz? No need to go back into that one... You already said enough by bringing him up...

And you named your team "My Balls Your Chin" in a league full of men.. So what's that say about you??

Do you have room for large parties??

    ReplyDelete
  12. Im gonna stop in for a quick beer! @Chillz i agree with strikeouts for hitters is the worst stat in the world! Who cares who how make the out! An out is and Out!

"To high, To high! Who gives a shit its gone." Major League 1.

Point being its gone no matter how u slice it!
