This blog has been created since I spend all of my life arguing sports with Willis Austin. Being the two knowledgeable sports fans that we are this is our first attempt to include people on the daily banter that often consumes one's life. This blog will often have a daily topic in which you the public will have the opportunity to chime in and give your respective opinions.

Derek Jeter
Its been reported that the Yankees offered the SS 3 years at 45 million; and told him if he someone else can match it then he is free to go; do you think this offer is a good deal or a slap in the face to the face of the Yanks? And do you think someone else with match it and if so we ll Jeter leave?

I dont believe its as simple as if another team throws him a better offer they will let him walk. I believe they are trying to get Jeter to see that he just isnt going to get much better than what they are giving him, which I think is a very generous deal. His power is dowm, OPS, RBI's down. Defensive range is gone. Yeah he only had 6 errors cause there were sooo many balls he just couldnt get to. However, if there is a team to give a better offer, you know the Yankees will step and match it, simply cuz he is the face of the team!
ReplyDeleteHe won't be the face of the team forever...
ReplyDeleteHis stats don't even warrant what the Yankees offered him. Legend or not, there's no point in over-paying for a player who is a liability at the plate AND in the field. Jeter is the 4th best player in the Yankees infield. If he won't accept the offer he's given, that's his loss. The Yankees can find a younger player with similar capabilities and not pay him nearly as much as what they're offering Jeter. Unless he can find undetectable PEDs, he's going to continue to diminish.
Robinson Cano = new face of the franchise
